What happens in therapy?
Many people feel curious about therapy, but aren’t quite sure what to expect in a session. This is completely normal! Therapy is a collaborative process where therapist and client work together to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a safe and nonjudgmental space. During sessions, we may talk about the challenges you are facing, uncover patterns that might be holding you back, and develop tools to help you navigate life more effectively. Depending on your needs, therapy can involve identifying and processing emotions, learning to set boundaries, addressing past traumas, or building self-compassion. My goal is to meet you where you are, answer your questions, and guide you toward healing and personal growth.
What should I expect in our first session?
Each session lasts 50 minutes. During our time together, we will explore what brings you in, and ask questions to better understand your experiences. We will collaborate on goals and determine the appropriate frequency of sessions.
How often do we meet?
Clients typically begin with weekly sessions, gradually transitioning to biweekly sessions as you make progress on your journey. In our first session, we will collaborate to create a schedule that works best for your unique needs and goals.
How do I schedule?
The best way to contact me is through my contact page! I will reach out within 48 business hours and set up a 15 minute phone consultation.
What are your fees?
Fees are $150 for a 50 minute session and $225 for a 90 minute session.
I do not accept insurance, but can provide a superbill that out-of-network clients can submit to their insurance for possible reimbursement.
What is EMDR?
EMDR is a type of therapy designed to help you heal from distressing experiences of trauma. It works by helping your brain process difficult memories in a new way. When something upsetting happens, it can get “stuck” in your mind and you might find yourself feeling the same emotions or physical sensations even longer after the event.
EMDR helps “unstick” those memories so they no longer feel overwhelming. During sessions, your therapist will guide you to focus on parts of the memory while using a tool like movement or tapping to help your brain process it. You won’t forget the memory, but it will feel less painful or intense.
What’s great about the EMDR is that it doesn’t require you to talk in detail about the event and if that feels too hard. We work at a pace that feels safe for you. EMDR is supported by research and is often used to help people with trauma, anxiety, or negative beliefs about themselves.
